Learn about outdoor composting bins and at home worm bins! Learn the tricks to healthy container gardens and soil mixtures. Run by the youth and adult staff of the Food Justice Team, who run’s EcoStation’s youth farm projects. Location: Bushwick Campus Farm, 400 Irving Ave, through the main entrance of the school. Please bring an ID for scanning. Cost: Suggested donation, but no one turned away!
We are starting a book club! All NDO members and friends are encouraged to attend. This club is for those who love food; where it comes from and where it goes, sustainability, learn about NYC history in all its forms, or who just a enjoy good read and organized discussions. We can rotate themes each month! Our first meeting will be lead by Jordan be on August 17th at 3pm- 4:30pm the Nextdoorganics Hub at 360 Throop Ave in BedStuy. Tea and coffee will be served. During our first meeting we will select our first book, discuss the best times and places to meet and how often, and what activities will best with our book of choice; a genuine book committee! In preparation for our first get together please think about a book suggestion, and if you have one, a book to donate, this will help kick off our NDO communal library!

Come join us for a deliciously fun workshop where you were learn how to prepare healthy desserts that are raw, dairy and gluten-free. The workshop will include preparation, tasting, and more! Learn about nutritious sugar alternatives in addition how to make and share these dishes easily at home for your friends and family. Recipes will include a chia parfait, creamy chocolate mousse, and another secret and simply dessert. Sarah Eve Cardell is The Culinary Shaman, making magic in the kitchen and healing from the heart. She is an experienced chef and food artist, creating visually and nutritiously inspiring cuisine. She has consulted extensively with restaurants in NYC, Bali, and Singapore, designing menus utilizing local flavors, and teaching workshops and retreats. She is always cooking with LOVE.

Using the time honored traditions of food preservation including fermentation and pickling, we’ll learn how to preserve fresh produce so that you can reduce food waste, save money, and eat local throughout the year. Participants will learn the theory and practice of food preservation as well as how to safely preserve food at home. We’ll also discuss the healing qualities and nutritional importance of probiotic fermented foods. Each participant will get to make a jar of fermented vegetables. Handouts with instructions and recipes will be provided so you feel comfortable fermenting at home. Angela Davis is a Holistic Health Coach, Certified Healing Foods Specialist, and the owner of Nourishing Works Holistic Health and Wellness Coaching. She is also the Community Food Education Program Coordinator for Just Food. Angela has been making homemade fermented foods since 2007 and serves as the co-organizer of NYC Ferments, a monthly Meet-Up of fermentation enthusiasts.
