10 Things To Love About Nextdoorganics
Nextdoorganics is an NYC-based CSA giving you weekly packages of fresh, local food. What’s not to love?
1. We Help You Eat Local, Simple As That
We ask four questions when sourcing our fruits and vegetables:
- Is it local?
- Is it organic-certified or organic in practice?
- Is it from a small-scale operation?
- Is it high quality in an easily traceable way?
One exception is the citrus we receive from California - it’s not local, but it meets all our other requirements. Our meats, cheeses, and web store items are all subject to similar scrutiny. Learn more about how we source our products here.
2. We’re A One-Stop Shop For Your Groceries
The backbone of Nextdoorganics is its fruit and vegetable packages in a multitude of sizes. But you can also add animal proteins, dairy and bread. Looking for non-perishable items? Our web store has pastas, beans, tomato sauces, mustards, teas, coffees and more. You can truly get all your week’s groceries from one delivery or nearby pick up.
3. We Deliver Straight To Your Doorstep
You can get your weekly Nextdoorganics packages delivered right to your home. Monday through Friday, our pedal-powered cargo bikes zip across parts of Brooklyn and Manhattan. How can bikes carry so much cargo? These beauties have a flat panel for stacking packages between the handlebar and the front wheel.
Find your delivery zone and time - and our pick up locations - on our sign up page.
4. You Don’t Commit To More Than You Want To
Most CSAs require an up-front payment for a season of weekly produce packages. At Nextdoorganics, you can opt in or out of packages on a week-by-week basis. The deadline to commit to your packages is four days ahead of pickup or delivery. If you want to opt out of a weekly package, just sign in, head to “my account“, and click “delivery hold.”
5. We Do Cool Stuff
Aside from delivering local groceries across NYC, we like to do cool stuff in our Bed-Stuy hub. We’ve learned how to brew kombucha, hosted book club, listened in on author readings and dug into potlucks - all with our members. To learn about upcoming events, check into our events page or sign up for our newsletter.
6. We’re Customizable
All these items can automatically be added to your produce packages as a standing weekly, bimonthly or monthly order.
- Animal proteins, including chicken, pork, beef and seafood
- Eggs
- Fruit-only, juicing or pantry packages
- Juicing packages
- Eggs, cheese or butter
- Coffee
- Bread
Or, add one-off items to one week’s packages in our web store.
7. Some Of Your Nextdoorganics Food May Be From Around The Corner
A few of the local farms we source produce from are right here in New York City. Sky Vegetables is a rooftop hydroponic farm in the Bronx. A hydroponic farm operates without soil, using mineral solutions for plants’ roots instead. Bushwick Campus Farms is an educational farm based in - you guessed it - Bushwick, Brooklyn. And Green Grass Life, NYC’s largest indoor farm, sends us pea shoots, wheatgrass and more from the Bronx.

8. We Want To Help You Cook Your Nextdoorganics Food Too
CSAs can challenge you to try new fruits and vegetables. Ever heard of romanesco broccoli? Watermelon radish? Sprouts? They’ve all been stocked in Nextdoorganics packages before. So we’ve built a blog with cooking how-tos, recipes, and behind-the-scenes insights into the food in our packages. Never cooked with pumpkin? Need to break down a whole chicken? Our blog has got it covered.
9. You Can Support Those In Need Through Nextdoorganics
We’re all about supporting our local food community, and participate in the Local Food Fund as a result. The fund supports local food access in two ways. First, it helps give lower-income Bed Stuy residents access to fresh, local food through the help of the Northeast Brooklyn Housing Development Corporation. Second, it contributes to 596 Acres’ grassroots land access efforts in Brooklyn. In essence, 596 Acres is helping Brooklyn-ers in need grow food with their own two hands in public plots of land.
You can contribute to our Local Food Fund through a standing order or as a one-time contribution.
10. We Can Deliver To Your Office
We deliver large batch-orders to offices in New York City. Do you think your fellow employees would want local produce and groceries delivered right to work? Would you love more unique snacks (think hummus, fresh salads, trail mixes…) in your office kitchen? Shoot us an e-mail at [email protected].
